I love my peanut butter! My favorite bedtime snack is a spoonful of Skippy Super Chunk with some sliced banana and hot cup of Sleepy Time tea. Since I love PB so much, I thought it made sense to live on the wild side and try a new flavor. Browsing through dozens of different jars in the WFM aisle– all-natural, low sodium, organic, honey-flavored, flax-oil, white chocolate– I stumbled upon a new brand — Better ‘n Peanut Butter. If there was something claiming to be better than peanut butter I had to check it out and rank it myself. You know the drill– 1 to 10 (10 being the best).
Better’n Peanut Butter
The Verdict: 4
Appearance: a few shades darker than Skippy, looks like a dark roasted PB
Flavor: comes in regular creamy and low sodium, the regular creamy is too salty, so stick to the low sodium brand; doesn’t taste like real PB, slight artificial aftertaste
Texture: similar texture to real PB, spreads well
Cost: $4.99 for 16oz jar
Health: gluten-free; contains some soy; all-natural; 100 cal and 2g fat per serving, 2 tablespoons
Recommendation: Try mixing 1/2 tablespoon Better’n Peanut Butter and 1/2 tablespoon Skippy (or your favorite brand) and sandwiching the mixture between two banana slices. I peel my banana 3/4 the way down. Slice through the middle of the banana, lengthwise, keeping the banana intact and inside the peel. Keeping the banana inside the peel makes it easier to hold and less of a sticky mess. Then I spread the PB mixture between the two slices, and fold the peel back over the banana. Optional, place in the freezer for 1/2 hour. Enjoy!
