New Food Stuffs Tried at Whole Foods Market, #101

Watch out Cinnamon Toast Crunch! WFM now carries a strong contender in the taste department– Three Sisters Cinnamon Sweets Cereal. In addition to being delicious, the cereal claims to be environmentally conscious. All of the Three Sisters cereals are made using renewable wind energy and come in simple bags, no boxes! But while the packaging may be good for the earth, the cereal is still really bad for you and therefore loses major points. Let’s see just how guilty this guilty pleasure is…the ranking goes 1 to 10 (10 being the best)

Three Sisters Cinnamon Sweets Cereal
Verdict: 3

Appearance: small squares, speckled cinnamon-sugar
Flavor: Delicious. Loved the balance of sugar and spice, but not as tasty as Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Texture: maintains a satisfying crunch –even with milk
Cost: pretty cheap for Whole Foods– around $3.50
Health: There is nothing on the food label to show that it’s actually more sensible for you than Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Loses lots of points for nutrition: I’d like to know who eats just 3/4 cup of cereal for breakfast? If you do, it’s still (130 calories and 3.5g of fat per serving, 3/4 cup); not a great start to the day (only 1g of fiber and 1g of protein per serving). Loses more points for a high (10g per serving) of sugar; does have whole grains
Recommendation: The sugary cereal goes well with simple skim milk, which packs in more protein
Resolution Stats: 5 new food stuffs tried, 100 more to go
Final Verdict: I was disappointed to find all that sugar in such teensy packaging. I recommend the product for people who choose products strictly on their environmental impact. I recommend sticking with Cinnamon Toast Crunch if you value flavor. I don’t recommend this product if you are looking for a nutritious breakfast!
