Create: Angel Food Cake With Strawberry Sauce, Chocolate Confetti


This sweet starts with a store-bought Angel Food Cake. From there I dressed it up with with a simple homemade strawberry sauce and dark chocolate shavings. The chocolatey dessert is colorful, light and a real crowd pleaser!

The Recipe for the Strawberry Sauce is from,


2 pints fresh strawberries, rinsed and sliced
2 cups fresh orange juice
1 cup sugar (I substituted sugar in the raw)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tsp. lemon zest (I left out)



To prepare the strawberry sauce: Combine the orange juice, sugar and strawberries in a saucepan and bring to a boil. When the sugar has melted and the strawberries are softened (about 5 minutes), strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve and set aside. Remember to catch the seeds.

Pour the strawberry juice mixture back into the same saucepan. Then, using a separate pot, combine 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1/4 cup of strained strawberry juice and mix until there are no lumps. Add this to the rest of the strawberry juice mixture and turn up the heat. Using a wooden spoon, stir until it begins to boil again and has thickened (about 1 to 2 minutes).

Pour into a Pyrex glass, and cool for about 30 minutes. Then, cover with plastic wrap and place the sauce in the refrigerator. You can make this recipe two days ahead of time and keep refrigerated. The sauce should be served cold.


Other Ingredients:

1 WFM angel food cake, plain or chocolate.
2 dark chocolate bars
2 teaspoons powdered sugar
Fresh strawberry slices for garnish


After you finish making the strawberry sauce, unmold the angel food cake from the plastic container and place the cake on a serving platter. Melt one bar of dark chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, in 30 second spurts, until the chocolate is completely melted. Take a fork and drizzle the chocolate over the cake. Place the cake in the freezer for 15 minutes, or until the chocolate is hardened. Then take the other chocolate bar and use a vegetable peeler to make chocolate shavings.


Decorate the platter and the top of the cake with the chocolate shavings, sliced strawberries, and powdered sugar. When the cake is ready to serve, drizzle each slice with the chilled strawberry sauce. Enjoy!
